Small oil painting on canvas, probably a sketch, depicting a glimpse of the Roman Campagna (countryside), so dear to the numerous foreign painters active in Rome in the nineteenth century. Specifically, the ruins in the center of our painting can be traced to today's area of Villa Gordiani on the Via Prenestina with the remains of the Tor de' Schiavi. In the foreground a group of travelers on horseback with dogs.

Signed lower right T. Dessoulavy Rome 1835.

Dimensions of the canvas cm 15,5 x 24 - with frame 22 x 30

On the back bears a label: "J. Dessoulavy A sketch in the campagna. For a picture painted for Mr. Baring". Bottom right on the back of the frame written in pencil in French "Tour des Esclaves".
