An italian double-face neoclassical hand fan with finely carved ivory splines. The kidskin or swan parchment page is painted on the verso with a cantral large view of the Lake Avernus near Naples with the Temple of Apollo in the foreground within a beaded border. On its left and right sides two landscapes, all around intricate grotesque decoration. On the recto a view with a night eruption of Mount Vesuvius inside an oval shaped cartouche.

Roman school of the second half of 18th century, attributable to the school of Tommaso Bigatti (active 1770-1810) or Camillo Buti (1747-1808) both specialized in the creation of fans and miniatures on fine leather.

Very good condition, cmmensurate wth age.
