Minerva agate cameo

Minerva agate cameo

€0.00

A fine large two layer onyx cameo depicting the profile of the goddess Minerva (Athena) facing right wearing the winged helmet with the face of Pan on the forehead, surmounted by a snake.

Mounted as a brooch/pendant in an unmarked revivalist gold rope twist frame with white enamel.

Rome second half of the 19th century, around 1860/70.

The cameo attributable to Filippo Tignani or Luigi Rosi, the setting in the style of Castellani.

Excellent condition, commensurate with age, tiny nicks around the edge on the cameo, few of the enamel panels have losses.
